Common questions

Questions, answered.

How the process works, what to send, how shipping and pricing run — the things builders ask most, in one place. Still unsure? Send a few photos and we'll talk specifics.

Process & results

Instead of dry media, the abrasive rides in water — gentle enough to leave casting texture and tolerances alone, aggressive enough to lift oxidation, fuel varnish and decades of staining. Sandblasting cuts the surface; vapor blasting cleans it.

An even, satin, factory-correct surface — we preserve cast texture rather than polishing it away. See the Results gallery for real examples across cases, carbs, covers and assemblies.

Assess and mask, vapor blast, rinse and passivate, inspect and return — no part skips a step. The full breakdown of each stage is on the Finishing page.

Parts & prep

Restoration-grade aluminum is our core: motorcycle and automotive engine cases, carburetors and intake, covers, housings and brackets, and precision assemblies. Brass, steel, plastic and rubber clean up too — the satin finish just shows best on aluminum.

Bare parts, disassembled (engines as separated cases and covers, not whole). No bearings, seals or electronics — remove anything that shouldn't get wet or blasted. Clear photos of condition help us quote accurately. Pack with good padding to protect fragile fins and mating surfaces in transit.

Yes. Our dedicated heavy-grit setup removes paint, powder coat and stubborn corrosion — but stripping a coating adds time and cost. If you can remove paint beforehand, it keeps the quote lower and turnaround faster. When in doubt, send photos and we'll advise.

Shipping & drop-off

No. Drop-off is by appointment in Red Hook, and mail-in work comes from NYC and the boroughs, New Jersey, Long Island and regional shops via freight. Everything ships back packed to survive the trip.

Start with the estimate form — photos and a quick description. We reply with a quote plus disassembly and packaging instructions, you ship, we blast and finish, and the parts come back inspected, protected and ready to reassemble.

We work by appointment for drop-off and pickup in Red Hook. Reach out first through the estimate form or by phone so we can schedule you in.

Pricing & turnaround

Every job is quoted on the part — complexity, condition and volume all move the number. We don't publish flat rates because two parts that look alike can be very different jobs. Send photos and a description through the estimate form and we'll come back with a real range, not a guess.

Turnaround depends on the part and the current queue, but a fast cycle relative to the industry is part of why customers come back. Every quote includes an honest turnaround estimate — and we tell you up front if something will take longer.

Use the estimate form — tell us about the parts and platform, whether you'll drop off or ship, and add a few photos. You can also call 646-389-0094.
